January 26th:First meeting of the year. Professor Banks Miller, of UTD will answer our questions based upon my request:
We are looking for someone what can tell our members realistic what can and can’t be done to stop Trump’s most egregious positions as stated during the campaign. He will be appointing a great number of people within the White House and to Cabinet positions. We could use an overview of the process of Senate review and confirmation. Plus any other areas where Democrats in the House and Senate can have significant influence. Answer such questions as: Can Democrats, in the minority of both chambers, call hearings and set up investigations? Can public demand, force any hearings or investigations? Much of this is basic government, but most of us have been out of college for a long time or may never have learned these basics. I am sure our members will have lots of questions as well.
It was said of Dr. Miller in a student review: “He’s an awkward type of funny, but he explains just about everything clearly”. Get your questions ready!
After Dr. Miller speaks, Lenna will give a report on the Women's March Austin and tell you about NDTDW's Indivisible Project.
